A new book

To the Highlands, that's the title of the next novel by Jon Doust.
Chosen to echo a fine work by a fine West Australian writer, Randolph Stow, To the Islands, winner of the Miles Franklin in 1958.

To the Highlands is a  brutal tale of love and madness set in 1968 on a Pacific Island before it gains its independence from Australia. It follows the after-school life of Jack Muir (the boy from Boy on a Wire) as he stumbles into manhood and discovers racism, addiction, a sick colonial community and that he cannot let go the desire for revenge.
The edits are complete.
The manuscript is being typeset.
The author is nervous.
The marketing program is in early planning.
Fremantle Press will release it all in August this year.
